From Needle in a Haystack to Mile High View - An overview of monitoring the end-to-end journey of a COVID19 test
The response to the Coronavirus pandemic resulted in a number of systems( from a range of suppliers) becoming critical cogs in a rather important ecosystem. This presented some monitoring challenges, and whilst each system may be independently monitored, is there any consistency? How can we be sure that the interactions between the different systems are working correctly with one one side of the story?
We’ll walk through how Splunk ITSI is being used to monitor the flow of data, interfaces and health of the testing journey from booking a Coronavirus test to getting a result.

Give it a REST - Episode 1 - Indexing email attachments/reports into Splunk
Sometimes you’ve got to move quickly to get new data sources into Splunk, or you might be using a system that does not have an API or Splunk-suitable output, this is when being able to index email attachments into Splunk can be really helpful. Using AWS Simple Email Service (SES) and some Lambda processing, getting the data out of attachments such as Excel files, zipped CSVs or HTML isnt as hard as it sounds.
